Filmmaker Terms
Last updated 28 September 2026
This document is being finalised with our legal advisers and may change before DonkiCom's public launch. We'll tell you about any important changes.
These terms apply when you create a studio and upload to DonkiCom, on top of the Terms of Use. They cover your rights in your work, what DonkiCom may do with it, plans, viewer support and the Creator Performance Pool.
1. You own your work
You keep all rights in your films, series, trailers and artwork. By publishing on DonkiCom you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, encode, stream and display them on DonkiCom, and to use your titles, posters, trailers and short clips to promote DonkiCom and your work, for as long as the title is on DonkiCom, plus a short period to remove copies.
2. You have the rights you need
You confirm that you own or have permission for everything in what you upload, including music, footage, and the consent of the people who appear in it, and that it doesn't break any law. If someone makes a claim about your title, we may take it down while it's resolved.
3. Content review
New uploads are reviewed by DonkiCom's team. A title may be approved, sent back for changes, rejected, or taken down later (for example after valid reports). You'll be told why in Studio. Editing a title after we ask for changes sends it back for review.
4. Audience measurement
DonkiCom measures real viewing of your published titles so your numbers can be trusted by platforms and commissioners. You can't edit these numbers. Inflating views or scores, with bots, fake accounts, click farms or anything similar, may lead to removed titles, lost Creator Performance Pool eligibility and a suspended studio.
5. Audience reports and pick-ups
You decide who sees your audience reports and for how long. If your project is picked up by another platform, you can mark it in Studio and DonkiCom will send viewers to that platform. Agreements you make with other platforms are between you and them.
6. Plans and access fees
Uploading uses a plan (Standard, Pro or Studio) or a one-off feature upload, each with an upload-minute allowance. Plan fees are an access fee for using DonkiCom's tools. They aren't earnings and don't guarantee views, income, funding or distribution. Payment for plans isn't live yet; before you're ever charged, we'll show you the price, billing period and renewal terms.
7. Viewer support
Viewers can choose to support you. Today these are pledges and no money has moved. When payments go live, receiving support will need you to verify your identity and bank details, and we'll publish the fees and payout timing before any payout.
8. Creator Performance Pool (CPP)
- The CPP shares 40% of DonkiCom's qualifying revenue for a period with creators, based on performance.
- Your score is calculated by DonkiCom from your audience and activity during the period; you qualify from a score of 50. How the pool is split is set by DonkiCom's published CPP rules, which may change, changes need approval from both DonkiCom Executives, and a confirmed period keeps its rules.
- Any figure in Studio is an estimate. What you receive depends on the pool and on the other eligible creators, and isn't guaranteed.
- The CPP isn't a refund of plan fees and doesn't depend on viewer support.
- CPP payouts aren't live yet. Payout timing, verification and tax information will be published before the first payout. We may withhold an allocation linked to fraud or a breach of these terms.
9. Removing titles and closing your studio
You can unpublish or delete a title at any time; deleting ends our licence to it. Deleting your account removes your studio, projects and audience records. We may suspend or close a studio that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why.
10. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Questions? Contact us through Support.
